Patient Stories

Below are a few quotes from the many letters received by YVMC from Grateful Patients.

“I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma in May, 2014. When somebody gets cancer, it’s not just me; it’s my wife and daughter. I had to think of my whole family and what I would be putting them through while I was receiving 6 months of chemotherapy. I had options of being treated at a variety of hospitals; from Dana Faber in Boston to other facilities in Cleveland and Houston where I have family members who wanted to care for me. I met Dr. Rifkin at YVMC who was from Boston and has been fighting this disease since 1978. The ability to continue to work, being with my family and to receive treatment in Steamboat Springs completed circle of healthcare for me.” ~ Luke Norland, Steamboat Springs, CO

“We are an island here in Steamboat Springs.  As a patient, having the security and knowledge that the emergency medical staff has at this hospital, along with the technology, background and the skill set is really, really incredible.”  Kelly Victory, BS, MD, FACEP, Trauma and Emergency Medicine

“Bryan was diagnosed at the age of 3 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukenmia. 10 days after my son Taylor was born. We had to travel to Denver 3 times a week for Bryan’s chemotherapy treatments. You can imagine how difficult it was traveling hundreds of miles a week with a newborn. The first year of treatment, Bryan was hospitalized 19 times. This made it nearly impossible to raise my youngest son. Dr. Dudley and his nurse, Christen, devised a program to have Bryan’s chemo in Steamboat was a saving grace. We were so blessed to have the secure healthcare support for Bryan and assistance from our wonderful community who performed wonderful acts of kindness throughout our ordeal.” Penny Fletcher, mother of Bryan Fletcher, World Cup Ski Champion, US Ski Team, Nordic Combined

“From the minute I walked in the Emergency Department, concern was shown to make me as comfortable as possible. My nurse, Julie McFadden, admitted me for treatment and was kind and compassionate. My husband was very concerned about the sudden onset of my illness, and she eased his anxiety. Dr. Laura Sehnert was also extremely attentive and kind.  So, to the admissions staff, my nurse and the doctor, I express my heartfelt appreciation. You all were the epitome of compassion, and I am grateful for that.” Rachel F., Holland, NY

“By coming to the YVMC Emergency Department for treatment, I have the use of both arms to hold my son, Gunnar.”  Cody Frautschy

My son was brought into the ER very early in the morning while we were on Easter vacation, enjoying Steamboat like the past 10 seasons.I am in the health care field and always strive to give excellent care. It is a pleasure when a health care facility truly lives up to their mission as everyone did who performed at your hospital. – from the ambulance, to the ER intake secretary, ER nurse, receptionist and both doctors. The radiologist, surgeon and anesthesiologist were professional and kind, explained all diagnosis and procedures, were succinct, showed passion, commitment and humor all in a brief encounter. Post-op care was wonderful.  Please share my sincere appreciation to your entire staff.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”   JoAnne J., Westfield, Indiana

“Without our hospital, we wold have to move to Denver or another large city.  We wouldn’t be in this community if we didn’t have the caring services YVMC provides to our son and family.”   The Casavecchia Family   img_9712
